ISLAM
Islam (English /ˈɪzlɑːm/;[note 1] Arabic: الإسلام al-ʾislām IPA: [ʔɪsˈlæːm] ( listen)[note 2]) is themonotheistic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a text considered by its adherents to be theverbatim word of God (Arabic: الله Allāh), and by the teachings and normative example (called theSunnah and composed of Hadith) of Muhammad, considered by them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim.
Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and the purpose of existence is to worshipGod.[1][2] Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed at many times and places before, including through Abraham, Moses and Jesus, whom they consider prophets.[3] They maintain that previous messages and revelations have been partially changed or corrupted over time,[4] but consider the Qur'an to be both the unaltered and the final revelation of God.[5] Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, providing guidance on multifarious topics from banking andwelfare, to warfare and the environment.[6][7]
The majority of Muslims are Sunni, being over 75–90% of all Muslims.[8] The second largest sect, Shia, makes up 10–20%.[9] About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country,[10] 25% inSouth Asia,[10] 20% in the Middle East,[11] 2% in Central Asia, 4% in the remaining South East Asian countries, and 15% in Sub-Saharan Africa.[12] Sizable communities are also found in China, Russia, and parts of Europe. With over 1.5 billion followers or over 22% of earth's population as of 2009,[12][13] Islam is the second-largest and one of the fastest-growing religions in the world.

Muhammad (c. 26 April 570 – 8 June 632;[1] also spelled Mohammad or Mohammed; Arabic:محمد) (full name: Muhammad Ibn `Abd Allāh Ibn `Abd al-Muttalib Arabic: عبد المطلب محمدإبن عبدالله إبن ) was the founder of the religion of Islam.[2][n 1] He is considered by Muslims and Bahá'ís to be a messenger and prophet of God, and by Muslims the last law-bearer in a series of Islamic prophets. Most Muslims consider him to be the last prophet of God as taught by theQuran.[3][n 2] Muslims thus consider him the restorer of an uncorrupted original monotheistic faith(islām) of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and other prophets.[4][5][6]
Born in 570 CE in the Arabian city of Mecca,[7][8] he was orphaned at an early age and brought up under the care of his uncle Abu Talib. He later worked mostly as a merchant, as well as a shepherd, and was first married by age 25.[9] Discontented with life in Mecca, he retreated to a cave in the surrounding mountains for meditation and reflection. According to Islamic beliefs it was here, at age 40,[7][10] in the month of Ramadan, where he received his first revelation from God. Three years after this event Muhammad started preaching these revelations publicly, proclaiming that "God is One", that complete "surrender" to Him (lit. islām) is the only way (dīn)[n 3] acceptable to God, and that he himself was a prophet and messenger of God, in the same vein as other Islamic prophets.[6][11][12]
Muhammad gained few followers early on,[13] and was met with hostility from some Meccan tribes; he and his followers were treated harshly. To escape persecution, Muhammad sent some of his followers to Abyssinia[14] before he and his remaining followers in Mecca migrated toMedina (then known as Yathrib) in the year 622.[15] This event, the Hijra, marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar, which is also known as the Hijri Calendar. In Medina, Muhammad united the conflicting tribes,[15] and after eight years of fighting with the Meccan tribes, his followers, who by then had grown to 10,000, conquered Mecca. In 632, a few months after returning to Medina from his Farewell pilgrimage, Muhammad fell ill and died. By the time of his death, most of the Arabian Peninsula had converted to Islam, and he had united the tribes of Arabia into a single Muslim religious polity.[16][17]
The revelations (or Ayah, lit. "Signs of God")—which Muhammad reported receiving until his death—form the verses of the Quran, regarded by Muslims as the “Word of God” and around which the religion is based. Besides the Quran, Muhammad’s life (sira) and traditions (sunnah) are also upheld by Muslims. They discuss Muhammad and other prophets of Islam with reverence, adding the phrase peace be upon him whenever their names are mentioned.[18] While conceptions of Muhammad in medieval Christendom and premodern times were largely negative, appraisals in modern history have been far less so.[12][19] His life and deeds have been debated and criticized by followers and opponents over the centuries.
AL-QURAN
http://www.quranflash.com/en/quranflash.html
The Quran (English pronunciation: /kɒˈrɑːn/ kor-ahn; Arabic: القرآن al-qurʾān, IPA: [qurˈʔaːn],[variations]literally meaning "the recitation"), also transliterated Qur'an, Koran, Alcoran, Qur’ān, Coran,Kuran, and al-Qur’ān, is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims consider the verbatim word of God[1] (Arabic: الله, Allah). It is regarded widely as the finest piece of literature in the Arabic language.[2][3][4][5][6]
The Quran is composed of verses (Ayah) that make up 114 chapters (suras) of unequal length which are classified either as Meccan or Medinan depending upon their place and time of revelation.[7] Muslims believe the Quran to be verbally revealed through angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) from God to Muhammad gradually over a period of approximately 23 years beginning in 610 CE, when Muhammad was 40, and concluding in 632 CE, the year of his death.[1][8][9]
Shortly after Muhammad's death the Quran was compiled into a single book by order of the firstCaliph Abu Bakr and at the suggestion of his future successor Umar. Hafsa, Muhammad's widow and Umar's daughter, was entrusted with that Quranic text after the second Caliph Umar died.[10]When the third Caliph Uthman began noticing slight differences in Arabic dialect, he sought Hafsa's permission to use her text to be set as the standard dialect, the Quraish dialect now known as Fus'ha (Modern Standard Arabic). Before returning the text to Hafsa, Uthman made several thousand copies of Abu Bakr's redaction and, to standardize the text, invalidated all other versions of the Quran. This process of formalization is known as the "Uthmanic recension".[11]The present form of the Quran text is accepted by most scholars as the original version compiled by Abu Bakr.[11][12]
Muslims regard the Quran as the main miracle of Muhammad, the proof of his prophethood[13]and the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with the messages revealed toAdam, regarded in Islam as the first prophet,[14] and continued with the Suhuf Ibrahim (Scrolls of Abraham),[15] the Tawrat (Torah or Pentateuch) of Moses,[16][17] the Zabur (Tehillim or Book of Psalms) of David,[18][19] and the Injil (Gospel) of Jesus.[20][21][22] The Quran assumes familiarity with major narratives recounted in Jewish and Christian scriptures, summarizing some, dwelling at length on others and in some cases presenting alternative accounts and interpretations of events.[23][24][25] The Quran describes itself as a book of guidance, sometimes offering detailed accounts of specific historical events, and often emphasizing the moral significance of an event over its narrative sequence.

The term hadith ( /ˈhædɪθ/[1] or /hɑːˈdiːθ/[2]) (plural: hadith, hadiths, or ahadith) is used to denote a saying or an act or tacit approval or criticism ascribed either validly or invalidly to theIslamic prophet Muhammad.[3]
Hadith are regarded by traditional Islamic schools of jurisprudence as important tools for understanding the Quran and in matters of jurisprudence.[4] Hadith were evaluated and gathered into large collections during the 8th and 9th centuries. These works are referred to in matters ofIslamic law and history to this day. The two main denominations of Islam, Shiʻism and Sunnism, have different sets of hadith collections.

RAMADHAN
Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان Ramaḍān, IPA: [rɑmɑˈdˤɑːn]; variations Persian: Ramazān; Urdu:Ramzān; Turkish: Ramazan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar;[4] Muslimsworldwide observe this as a month of fasting.[5][6] This annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam.[7] The month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon, according to numerous biographical accounts compiled inhadiths.[8][9] The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramida or ar-ramad, which means scorching heat or dryness.[10]
While fasting from dawn until sunset Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids and sexual relations.[11] According to Islam, the sawab (rewards) of fasting are many, but in this month they are believed to be multiplied.[12] Fasting for Muslims during Ramadan typically includes the increased offering of salat (prayers) and recitation of theQuran.[13][14]
